$12,500

A stunning and extremely rare 14K yellow gold, green tourmaline and pearl bracelet signed by Everett Edward Oakes. The bracelet comprises nine comma-shaped flaring gold links, each set with either a tourmaline cabochon or a pearl. The gems are set in the notched collet-setting frequently employed by Oakes to show off a stone’s color and overall quality. The tourmalines have fine green color with moderate saturation and medium tone. The clarity is excellent for tourmalines of this type. The pearls are equally fine, with good shape and bright rose overtones. The design, with nearly a Retro feel, is a bit more modern than is often associated with Oakes, but the beadwork and notched collets are typical. The tongue of the concealed box clasp is marked “14K” and bears Oakes’ oak leaf signature.

Edward Everett Oakes (1891-1960) was perhaps the foremost Arts & Crafts jeweler in America. He was a member (and medallist) of the Boston Arts & Crafts Society, and became the first living artist to have a work acquired for the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He trained with Frank Gardner Hale and worked for a few years with Josephine Hartwell Shaw. Oakes’ work shows a certain similarity with both Hale and Shaw. Most of his pieces are unsigned, but can often be identified based on their decorative motifs and construction techniques.

Origin: America, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, one pearl link has been removed to shorten the bracelet to a normal length. Size: 7-5/8” long; 1/2" wide. Weight: 24.69 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: tourmaline, 8.95 cts.

$3500

A beautiful 14K yellow gold and amethyst ring attributed to Edward Everett Oakes (or possibly Frank Gardner Hale). Both of these members of the Boston Society of Arts & Crafts produced jewels featuring intricate wirework, stylized foliate and floral motifs and berry clusters as seen in this ring. The amethyst is held in place by a complex design of flowers and foliage that grasps the outer edges of the stone in a manner often seen in Oakes’ work. The mounting causes the amethyst to appear oval, but it is in fact round. The design continues down the shoulders and completely around the shank. The setting is completely handmade, using torch, engraving and sawing techniques. There is no sign of any cast elements. The amethyst is very fine quality, with intensely saturated medium-dark slightly reddish-purple tone, and no color zoning to detract from the stone’s beauty. The interior back of the shank is indistinctly hallmarked and the interior of the mounting has an affixed plaque marked “14K”. Though the hallmark cannot be read, all the indicators of style and construction suggest Oakes as the most likely maker.

Origin: America, ca. 1920. Condition: excellent, sharp detail. Finger Size: 7-1/2. Crown Size: 25/32” x 21/32”. Weight: 6.7 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 6.35 carats.

$1250

A beautiful and large Mikimoto floral brooch of cultured pearls set in 14K white gold. Most Mikimoto brooches are set with 6-12 pearls, but this exceptional pin features thirty very fine pearls, ranging from 5.4 to 7.72 millimeters. The pearls are of the best quality, with cream body color and rose overtones. The luster is bright and the surfaces are minimally blemished. Using Mikimoto’s grading system, the quality is estimated to be AA. Most Mikimoto pins in light-colored metals are in sterling silver. It is very difficult to find white gold pins. The back is stamped with Mikimoto’s hallmark and is marked “WG14K”.

Origin: Japan, ca. 1960. Condition: excellent. Size: 2-1/2” x 2-3/16”. Weight: 20.9 grams.

$2850

A very attractive Retro 18K yellow gold wirework open mesh bracelet studded with round-cut synthetic rubies. Nearly all Retro jewelry is set with synthetic rubies, largely because the stones were very difficult to get from Asia in the years leading up to World War II. The gems alternate with gold beads in a zigzag pattern that nicely highlights the intricate interwoven design of the bracelet. The box clasp is marked "18K".

Origin: America, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent. Size: 1-1/8" wide; 8-5/16" long. Weight: 58.8 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 5.54 cts.

SOLD, PLEASE VISIT US AGAIN!

A delightful 18K yellow gold giraffe charm or pendant by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. of London. This company was one of the most famous late Victorian and Edwardian jewelers, being appointed as a purveyor to the king. The charm is nicely detailed and shows the giraffe in a standing position with its tall neck outstretched. Certainly, giraffes were still considered unusual animals at the time, and might have been made as either a quirky pendant/charm or as a piece of jewelry for a child. The charm is presented in its original velvet- and silk-lined fitted box, the lid embossed with the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co.'s Royal Warrant. Tested and guaranteed 18K.

Origin: England, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent. Size: 1" long. Weight: 4.2 grams.

From left to right: 10K with turquoise and pearls; 10K with repousse floral decoration; diamond-shaped 10K with synthetic rubies and sapphires set in a checkerboard pattern; 14K set with a rose-cut diamond in a double-sided repousse floral background; 14K set with an old mine cut diamond and enhanced with Etruscan revival bead and wirework decoration; 14K with decorative engraving and opaque black taille d’epargne enamel; large 14K shield-shaped; 14K collet-set with two very fine opals in a double-sided repousse floral background; 14K heart-shaped star-set with a pearl; 14K box-shaped with applied architectural revival decoration; 14K diamond-shaped with a star-set pearl; and 10K oval with pearls and turquoise cabochons bead-set in a star pattern. The slides are strung on a double chain with a 14K fold-over clasp and are separated by 14K gold spacer beads. Tested and guaranteed for gold content.
