$1495

Beautiful Edwardian sterling silver powder box with guilloche enamel in translucent ivory. The lid is decorated with a elegantly colorful painted enamel bouquet of wildflowers tied with a blue ribbon. The sides of the box are decorated with small floral sprigs. The inside is hallmarked with Austrian silver marks and the maker's mark "GAS". This maker was well-known for beautiful enameled items such as boxes, compacts, parasol handles and miniature clocks. Exposed areas of silver are parcel-gilt.

Origin: Austria, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, very light surface scratching visible with a loupe; a small area of dark spots on one side is original to the making and is not damage. Size: 4-1/16" diameter; 1-5/8" high.

$1,425

Top-notch English bombe-form enameled box, the top decorated in a hand-painted Watteau-type scene probably taken from Jean Pillement's 1760 "The Ladies Amusement". The quality of this painting is of the very highest quality, and might have been exectuted by one of the French enamelists working in Battersea. The sides are hand-painted by a different artist with pastoral scenes. The reserves are framed in rocaille work in thick white pigments typical of the earlier English enamels. The background is highlighted with gilt vermicelli decoration which even appears on the underneath side of the box. The mountings retain most of their original gilding.

Origin: England, circa 1765. Condition: excellent, all original, gilding intact, absolutely no cracks or repairs. Size: 3-3/8" x 2-9/16" x 1-1/2".

$265

Rare four-lobed copper bowl decorated in painted enamel. The decoration pictures three ancient Chinese warriors in a landscape. Like nearly all enamelware, this piece has suffered from the ravages of time, but the fine detail of the decoration and the rarity of the form more than compensate for the condition.

Origin: China, late 18th century. Condition: numerous chips and cracks, particularly along edges. Size: 4-1/2" diam., 2-1/8" high.
