An outstanding sterling silver master salt dip completely covered in repousse floral decoration by Gorham. The oval dish is finished with an outturned shell border and is raised on scrolled legs with shell terminals. This salt is very generously sized. The bottom bears a period monogram "AHS". The interior retains traces of the original gilding. The bottom is marked with Gorham's older hallmark, the pattern number 2200, and an illegible date mark that may be 1887.

Origin: America, ca. 1887. Condition: excellent, sharp detail on decoration, normal wear and oxidation to the interior gilding, no dings. Size: 3-1/8" x 2-11/16" x 1-3/4" tall. Weight: 73.0 grams.

A wonderful sterling silver footed basket by Gorham. The edges are decorated in an ornate Victorian floral motif that is echoed on the handle. The scrolled feet are accented with a shell motif. The rounded sides of the basket have a superb pierced floral design that sets this basket apart from most others. The basket is of the very finest quality made by Gorham in the Edwardian era. The basket would be ideal for a small floral arrangements or potpourri. The bottom is hallmarked with one of Gorham’s earlier marks and the date code for 1908.

Origin: America, 1908. Condition: excellent, a very slight bend to the handle. Size: 7-13/16” x 5-5/8” x 5-1/2” tall. Weight: 217.5 grams.

A wonderful sterling silver soup ladle in Reed & Barton’s famous 1907 “Francis I” pattern. This is one of the most desirable late Victorian American flatware designs. This ladle is from the original series and is hallmarked with Reed & Barton’s old hallmark and the design patent date.

A rare sterling silver pickle fork in Towle’s 1887 “Pomona” pattern. The long handle is decorated with a cornucopia overflowing with peaches, pears and grapes amidst foliage. The handle twists before leading into the matte gild three-tined fork. This piece would have been used for pickled vegetables, but could now be used for a variety of foods. The long size is much more difficult to find than the shorter version. The back is stamped with Towle’s hallmark and the patent date.

A lovely and rare sterling silver lettuce fork in Gorham’s 1885 “#431” pattern. Head lettuce was a newly invented vegetable near the end of the Victorian era, and many silversmiths created special long forks to serve the leaves in the most elegant way possible. The handle is nicely decorated with oyster, clam and scallop shells, as well as fronds of seaweed, and is reminiscent of the exquisite “Narragansett” pattern. The tines are pierced and enhanced with bright-cut engraving. Gorham produced only a limited line in this pattern and it quite difficult to find. The back has complementary decoration and is stamped with Gorham’s older hallmark and the pattern number.

A handsome pair of sterling silver sugar tongs from the reign of King William IV. The sides are decorated in a classical late Georgian shell and thread motif. The quality is very fine. The interior have pristine hallmarks for London, 1834-35, and the maker’s mark for William Eaton.

A pretty Victorian sterling silver berry or preserves spoon in Towle’s 1887 “Clover” pattern. Both the handle and bowl are decorated with bright-cut engraving of clover flowers and foliage. The bowl has a scalloped upper border, repoussed lobes, and matte gilding. The back is marked with Towle’s hallmark and the patent date.

A fabulous sterling silver in-spout tea strainer by George Shiebler. The hammered surface is fashioned in a shape suggestive of a lily blossom and the outside is decorated with an applied fish, fly and spider. The design of the piercing mimics the floral style of the overall shape. The detail of the applied creatures is superb. The strainer has a wire handle with prongs that can be inserted into the spout of a teapot to catch loose leaves as the liquid is poured. Holloware items with applied decoration in the Aesthetic style by Shiebler are very rare.

Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent. Size: 1-13/16” tall to top edge of strainer; 5-1/4” tall to top of prongs. Weight: 25.5 grams.

A very handsome sterling silver gravy ladle in John R. Wendt’s “Medallion” pattern. Wendt’s version was one of the earliest designs to use classical profiles as the primary decorative element. The medallion, depicting the goddess Pallas Athena, is supported by a reeded stem that leads to the oval bowl with flared edges. The back is stamped with the retailer’s mark for D. H. Buell & Co., and with the “925” that is often found on early Wendt pieces.

A gorgeous pair of Victorian sterling silver serving spoons, the handles and bowls amazingly decorated with repousse, chased and engraved designs. The handles are decorated with reserves of winged cherubs hanging garlands of flowers, the reserves surrounded by rococo shell motifs. The stems are decorated with floral garlands leading to the amazing decorative bowls, covered in repousse floral designs. The backs of the handles are as attractive as the fronts and are engraved with a very handsome three-letter monogram. The spoons are fully hallmarked for London, 1894, and bear a script maker’s mark “AB” or “AR”. These spoons are extremely heavy, and are of the absolutely finest quality being produced at the end of the 19th century.
