A very nice pair of Art Nouveau sterling silver cufflinks by Unger Bros. Each of the oval faces features a stylized design reminiscent of pine needles swirling around a central boss. The design shows a clear trend toward a more geometric style that eventually grew into Art Deco, rather than the swirling, feminine lines of classic Art Nouveau. The faces are connected by oval links. The backs are stamped with Unger's hallmark.Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, all original, sharp detail. Size: 13/16" x 17/32". Weight: 11.0 grams.

An interesting pair of 18K yellow and white gold Modernist stirrup cufflinks concealing a hidden erotic element. When being worn, the cufflinks appear to be a standard pair of stirrup style cufflinks, but the mechanical closure is styled as a white gold penis that inserts (rather tightly) into a "slot" on the other side of the cufflink. The exposed surfaces have decorative engraving in a tree-bark pattern found on pieces from the 1950s. Stirrup-style cufflinks were popularized by Cartier in the 1940s, but it's unlikely that they ever envisioned this particular variation. The cufflinks are marked 18K and have the maker's mark "S&F".Origin: America, ca. 1955. Condition: excellent. Size: 1" x 1". Weight: 24.0 grams.

Very rare pair of 14K yellow gold, diamond and lapis lazuli cufflinks designed by Erte in the "La Dentelle-State I" pattern. The faces of the cufflinks are cut in a shape that suggests a bird, with lapis lazuli cabochons for eyes. The exposed gold surfaces are engraved and cast in an intricate pattern of geometric bars and swirls to suggest lace, hence the title ("dentelle" is "lace" in French). The appearance is angular and severe--in the Art Deco taste--rather than the softer, frillier appearance of lace. Short bands of bead-set single-cut diamonds finish off the design.Known throughout his career as a costume designer, illustrator and the "Father of Art Deco", Erte began designing jewelry in 1979. At the time of his death in 1990, he had produced just over 300 different designs, most of them were made in rather small limited editions. Only 100 examples of the "La Dentelle-State I" cufflinks were made. The backs are signed "Erte", "CFA 14K", and "11/100". Origin: America, ca. 1980. Condition: excellent. Size: 2-1/8" x 7/8". Weight: 20.25 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: lapis, 4.8 cts; diamond, .5 ct.
