An extremely rare pair of period Art Deco 18K gold cufflinks by Cartier in the "Trinity" pattern. This is the same pattern now more frequently called the "rolling ring". The design is made up of white, yellow and rose gold bands that seem to intertwine. The cufflinks have a hinged closure that's invisible when they're being worn. Although the "Trinity" design is still one of Cartier's most popular designs, the line was created in the 1920's and the cufflinks haven't been in production since the early years. Each is marked with the French "tete d'aigle" hallmark for 18K gold, Cartier's maker's mark and Paris signature, and a serial number. The interior of one link has a minutely engraved monogram "FM" and the year " '30".Origin: Paris, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1" diameter; 9/32" wide. Weight: 18.8 grams.

A very handsome pair of barbell cufflinks worked in 14K yellow gold. Each end of the barbell is fashioned as a full-blown chrysanthemum or zinnia blossom. The detailed workmanship is superb. Each petal is highlighted with grayish-black patination. This treatment lends an Aesthetic period effect and keeps the floral design from appearing feminine. The larger faces are collet-set with round brilliant diamonds of superb quality (estimated at I color, VVS1 clarity, and excellent cut and finish). The brightness of the diamonds contrasts nicely with the dark patination and gold. The solid connectors are slightly arched, so the cufflinks will hold the cuff snugly. The connectors are marked “14K” and have an unidentified maker’s mark.Origin: America, ca. 1960. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: larger faces, 3/4” diameter; smaller faces, 7/16” diameter. Weight: 18.6 grams. Approximate Total Diamond Weight: .3 carat.

A fine pair of French Art Nouveau 18K yellow gold cufflinks designed by Edmond-Henri Becker. The cufflinks feature medallist portraits of the god Wotan (Odin) wearing his winged helmet, a frequent attribute for the highest ranking of the Germanic gods. The top-line French Art Nouveau jewelers such as Boucheron, Vever, Verger, and Aucoc commissioned sculptors such as Becker to create designs that could be incorporated into medallion-style jewels. Often the designs featured images of women, but the more interesting pieces drew inspiration from history or mythology. Becker was among the finest of the “medallists”, and as with all his work, the detailing is superb. The edge of the design is marked “Becker”. The backs are fully marked the the “tete d’aigle” hallmark for 18K gold and also with an illegible maker’s mark, most likely that of either Boucheron or Verger, the two jewelers who most frequently used Becker’s designs.Origin: France, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, sharp detail, each of the baton backs has a minor ding. Size: faces, 11/16” diameter. Weight: 5.2 gr.
