Very fine 18K yellow gold Art Nouveau cufflinks in an intricate pierced and engraved pattern representing a chrysanthemum. Each flower is centered with a nice quality old mine cut diamond collet-set in silver. The use of silver to set diamonds is a holdover from the earlier part of the 19th century. The torpedo backs are engraved to represent the woody stems of chrysanthemums--a continuation of the design theme showing the care with which French Art Nouveau jewelry was conceived. The gold has the soft "bloomed" surface characteristic of French Art Nouveau jewels.Origin: Paris, circa 1885. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 3/4" x 5/16". Weight: 5.75 grams. Total Gemstone Weight: .08 carat.
