$3695

A stunning French Art Nouveau 18K yellow gold locket, the front decorated with a monkey. The monkey, in a sitting position, holds his tail in one hand and a collet-set old mine cut diamond in the other. He is surrounded by gingko leaves, a classic foliate design in French Art Nouveau jewels. The detailing of the monkey is exquisite, with each little tuft of fur delicately engraved. The monkey's tail extends below the bottom edge of the locket to conceal the clasp. The locket slides open sideways instead of opening on a hinge in the traditional manner. The interior retains the original frames and an original photographic portrait. The bale bears French 18K gold "tete de Mercure" guarantee and an unidentified maker's mark. This piece is undoubtedly the work of a master jeweler and is the finest Art Nouveau locket we've offered.

Origin: France, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, all original, sharp detail, no monogram. Size: 1-1/4" x 1-1/2" (excluding jump ring). Weight: 18.0 grams. Approximate Diamond Weight: .2 carat.

$425

A lovely small Art Nouveau floral brooch worked in 10K yellow gold and highlighted at the center with a gold pansy decorated in translucent enamels. The coloring of the pansy is particularly nice, shading delicately from a soft rose and yellow on the upper petals to a stronger bluish-violet and black on the lower petals. The pearl is centered with a small seed pearl, and another seed pearl to one side suggests a bud. In the Victorian language of flowers, the pansy represented remembrance. Small brooches such as this might have been given as a parting gift. The flower is enclosed in a gold circle flanked by “wings”. The back retains the original pinstem and clasp marked “10K”.

Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, all original, no enamel damage. Size: 3/4" x 1-1/8”. Weight: 2.5 grams.

$495

A lovely late Victorian 14K yellow gold pin in the Art Nouveau taste. The outer gold rim, in a modified heart shape, encloses two sprigs of gold mistletoe, enameled in soft translucent shades of green and gold. Each pair of leaves flanks a 2-1/2 point prong-set old European cut diamond. The gold stems of the mistletoe are tied with a bit of gold ribbon. Though mistletoe is now generally associated with the Christmastide kissing tradition, the Victorian language of flowers used the plant to signify difficulties that have been overcome. A small brooch such as this might have been a gift for a lady following a trying period in her life. The back retains the original pinstem and clasp marked with Krementz’ hallmark and “14K”.

Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, no enamel damage, all original. Size: 1” x 15/16”. Weight: 2.5 grams.
