A stunning pair of Art Deco 18K white gold earrings set with diamonds and featuring amethyst drops. The surmounts are round amethyst cabochons simply set in white gold millegrained collets. They suspend a line of round brilliant cut diamonds interrupted by a circle set with diamonds. The earrings terminate in large oval amethyst cabochons, each weighing just over 6.5 carats. Each of the elements is fully articulated so the earrings have a lot of movement. The amethysts are of very fine quality, with dark, intensely saturated slightly reddish-purple color. The diamonds are likewise of excellent quality, estimated at G color, VS clarity. Amethysts were not commonly used in Art Deco jewelry, so these earrings are quite unusual. The posts are extra-long have have press-in clutches. The earrings are stamped with the French “tete d’aigle” hallmark for 18K.Origin: France, ca. 1925. Condition: excellent. Size: 2-16” long. An absolutely stunning Art Deco cross pendant in 18K yellow gold accented with diamonds and sapphires. The body of the cross is worked in pierced yellow gold, centering a nearly 2/3-carat round old European cut diamond collet-set in platinum. The piercing lightens the appearance of the cross and creates the visual effect of rays emanating from the central diamond. Each of the four arms of the cross is bordered with caliber-cut natural blue sapphires of fine quality, and terminates in a band of round brilliant-cut diamonds bead-set in platinum. The corners of the junctions of the arms are ornamented with small diamonds collet-set in platinum and cabochon sapphires prong-set in gold. The overall design is very angular, heightening the strong Art Deco treatment of this most traditional of designs. The center diamond is estimated at G color, SI2 clarity, and the smaller diamonds are of similar quality. The sapphires have excellent color saturation and clarity. This is, without a doubt, the finest Art Deco cross we’ve seen. The cross is stamped with the French “tete d’aigle” for 18K gold and has an indistinct maker’s mark.Origin: France, ca. 1925. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 2” x 1-9/16” (excluding bale). Weight: 11.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, 2.5 carats; sapphire, 3.6 carats.

Extraordinary patriotic “V for Victory” brooch in 14K yellow gold set with Montana sapphires and pearls. The quality of workmanship is superb, and the stones are magnificent. During World War II, it was very difficult to get genuine gemstones because of blockades, so most jewelers re-set stones from older pieces or used synthetic stones. This brooch makes use of one of America’s few truly gem-quality minerals—Montana sapphires, probably from the Yogo Gulch area. The square-cut sapphires are invisibly set, copying the style created by Van Cleef & Arpels in the Art Deco period. Groups of three sapphires alternate with prong-set pearls of very nice quality. The bottom of the “V” is set with an old European cut sapphire. The gold setting is very finely millegrained. The most amazing part of this brooch, however, is that it is a mechanical piece. It can be straightened to be worn as a bar pin when one is feeling less patriotic. Even opened as a bar pin, however, the brooch suggests airplane propellers which was another popular patriotic motif. Victory pins were popular, but those in gold and set with genuine stones are quite rare. This is the ONLY mechanical example we’ve ever seen. The side is marked “Pat. Apl’d For” and also bears an indistinct maker’s mark. Origin: America, 1940-45. Condition: mint. Size: 1-13/16” x 1-13/16” in the “V” formation; 3-1/2” x 1/4" in bar formation. Weight: 7.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: sapphire, 2.81 carats.

Rare pair of vintage 14K yellow gold earrings set with oval jade cabochons by Mikimoto. Although largely unrecognized, Mikimoto made a very successful and expensive range of jewelry with colored stones during the 1920s and 30s. The jade has a strong green color and nice translucency. The screwbacks are stamped with Mikimoto’s hallmark.Origin: Japan, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 5/8” x 7/16”.
