$550

A very good multigem “Sputnik” ring in the style of H Stern. Stern, the world’s largest dealer in colored gemstones, created this design in the 1950s to showcase the wonderful array of colored gemstones available in the Brazilian mines. Amethysts, aquamarines, citrines, garnets, and green and pink tourmalines are collet-set above the yellow gold dome (this ring also includes an unusual and very pretty deep blue tourmaline). The resulting appearance was considered very modern and was popularly named after the early Russian space satellite “Sputnik”. Each ring has a unique look depending upon the particular selection and arrangement of the gems. This example includes an unusual and very pretty deep blue tourmaline that we have never seen in a Sputnik piece. Tested and guaranteed 18K.

Origin: Brazil, ca. 1960. Condition: excellent. Finger Size: 9. Size: 29/32” diameter. Weight: 6.1 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: tourmaline, 1.65 cts; garnet, 1.23 cts; citrine, 1.16 cts; amethyst, 1.16 cts; aquamarine, .87 ct.

$2795

An exquisite pair of 18K yellow gold earrings featuring large mabe pearls, diamonds and sapphires by Spark, a New York jewelry house particularly noted for the fine quality of its gemstones. The square earrings have slightly arcing sides channel-set with brilliant round-cut diamonds, punctuated at the corners with square-cut blue sapphires. The earrings are centered with 13.8mm mabe pearls. The pearls are of spectacularly fine quality, easily on a par with Mikimoto. The surfaces are free of blemishes, are very lustrous, and have cream coloring with strong rose overtones. The diamonds are equally fine, estimated at E/F color and VVS clarity. The backs retain the original omega clips, but the posts have been removed for wear as clips. Posts can easily be added. The backs are marked “18K” and “SPARK”.

Origin: America, ca. 1980. Condition: excellent. Size: 13/16” diameter. Weight: 21.6 gr. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, 2.0 carats; sapphire, 1.6 carats.

Very pretty vintage aquamarine ring featuring a 4.0 carat oval-cut aquamarine flanked by trillion-cut stones, 1.3 carats each. The aquas are perfectly clear and are of a lovely pale blue color without a trace of green. The shank is marked "14K" and has a maker's mark that I can't quite make out (possibly "GC").

The pearls, ranging in size from 5.0 to 5.9 millimeters, have nice luster and cream/rose color and are slightly off-round. Each of the four spacers is set with three old European cut blue sapphires. The bright blue coloring of the sapphires makes a nice contrast with the milkiness of the pearls. The bracelet is finished with a wonderful large heart-shaped clasp prong-set with forty-three natural seed pearls. The seed pearls are of unusually nice quality and are well-matched for the pavé effect. The clasp is marked “14K”.
