A wonderful 20K gold necklace. The thick part of the chain, comprising flat round interlocking plaques, is purely a Retro design similar to Van Cleef & Arpels’ “Ludo” chains. The pendant fringe below the chain, however, are decorated with fine beadwork in the Etruscan Revival style. There was a resurgent interest in Victorian jewelry in the 1930s and 40s. Often the marriage of these two styles was not particularly successful, but in this case, the overall effect is very attractive. The clasp is stamped with Swedish hallmarks. Tested and guaranteed 20K gold.Origin: Sweden, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 17” long. Weight: 63.0 grams.
