$325

Very nice Victorian 14K yellow gold bar pin featuring a wonderfully detailed portrait of a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress. Late 19th century Europeans were fascinated by American Indians, to whom they were introduced at various World's Fairs and travelling "Wild West" shows. Images of American Indians are, however, very scarce in period Victorian jewelry from Europe. The reverse retains the original pinstem and early safety clasp. The back is marked "585 Pr. FSH".

Origin: Continental Europe, circa 1890. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 2-3/8" x 7/8". Weight: 6.5 grams.

$375

Lovely late Victorian crescent pin decorated with three enameled 4-leaf clovers, each set with a small old mine-cut diamond of nice quality. The clovers are delicately colored in lifelike shades of green. These pins are sometimes called honeymoon pins because the presence of flowers (equated with honey) and the crescent (suggestive of the moon) spelled out "honeymoon". They were often given by grooms to their brides on their wedding night. The back is marked "K14R".

Origin: America, circa 1900. Condition: excellent; all original; no enamel damage. Size: 7/8" x 7/8". Weight: 2.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: .07 carats.

$395

A top-notch short vest watch chain complete with its original fob ends. The chain is composed of 13 variously cut black onyx beads joined with 14K gold fittings. The round fob has nice floral engraving against the matte finish of the sphere. These shorter watch chains were used for watches worn in the breast pocket of a jacket. The chain can be worn for its original purpose, but at 7-1/2" long, it is the ideal size to be worn as a bracelet. The spring clasp is marked "14K"; tested and guaranteed 14K gold.

Origin: America, circa 1890. Condition: very good; one of the long beads has a 1/8" flake at one end and another long bead has a 1/16" flake at one end (neither are particularly noticeable when being worn). Size: 7-1/2" long.

$325

Exquisite Victorian sticking fashioned from 12K yellow gold, the head in the shape of a horseshoe prong-set with a double row of graduated rose-cut diamonds and cabochon rubies. One of the rubies is an old mine-cut and another is a rectangular cushion-cut. In both cases, the stones appear to be original, as the setting fits them perfectly. Perhaps the jeweler was more interested in matching color than specific cuts. This was not an uncommon practice in the era. Tested and guaranteed 12K gold.

Origin: probably England, circa 1880. Condition: very good, with wear to some of the outer prongs. Size: head, 5/8” x 9/16”, overall length, 2-7/16”. Weight: 2.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, .3 carat; ruby .5 carat.

$225

Handsome Napoleon III-era 18K gold brooch in the form of an eagle with spread wings. Eagle motifs were very popular in French jewelry of the 1860's and 70's. This example features a hook from which a lady could hang her gold watch. The eagle's beak holds a small ring that originally would have been attached to a tiny safety chain for the watch. This piece is decorated in the repousse manner, meaning that the design was created by working the gold from the back side rather than engraving the front. The detail is outstanding. The back retains the original pinstem and c-clasp. The back is stamped with the French "tete d'aigle" 18K gold hallmark and with the jeweler's mark (BF).

Origin: France, circa 1870. Condition: excellent, crisp detail. Size: 2-1/4" x 9/16" (excluding watch hook). Weight: 2.5 grams.

The reverse is hallmarked with the "tete d'aigle" stamp for 18K gold and also with an unidentified jeweler's mark.

Origin: France, circa 1870. Condition: excellent; all original, including tube-hinged pinstem with trombone clasp. Size: 2-5/8" x 13/16" (widest). Weight: 6.5 grams.
