A very nice Victorian watch fob chain of woven hair accented with 14K yellow gold fittings. The weaving is very nicely done from hair in a soft chestnut color. The center of the chain features a paneled gold fitting from which is suspended a gold-mounted pendant drop with acorns and leaves. Hairwork jewelry was a cottage industry and was made both as memorial jewelry and as love tokens. Each end of the chain is finished with gold fittings, as well. A contemporary gold filled chain has been added to the back to transform the fob chain into an 18” long necklace.

$1250

A stunning late Victorian coin purse made of 14K yellow gold mesh. The hinged frame is studded with gypsy-set cushion-cut blue sapphires alternating with old European cut diamonds in star-engraved settings. The dual thumbpiece is set with two blue sapphire cabochons. All the gemstones are of the very finest quality. The sapphires, especially, have stunning color saturation and superb clarity. The bottom edge of the purse is fringed with three small natural pearls in a slightly oval shape. The meshwork is very well done. The frame is marked with imperial Austrian hallmarks used only between 1891 and 1901. The back side of the frame has a small bale so the purse can be suspended from a silk cord or a chatelaine. Hanging from a cord, the purse could be worn around the neck or wrist. Small bags of this sort were used for coins, but also to discreetly tuck away things a proper, but still lively, Victorian lady might need.
