SOLD, PLEASE VISIT US AGAIN!

A very fine mid-19th century diamond, emerald and pearl brooch in the form of a clover. Each of the three leaves is set with rose-cut and old mine-cut diamonds, centered by prong-set emeralds. The leaves are gathered around a very lustrous deep cream 4.5mm natural pearl. The stem is also set with diamonds. The emeralds have deep green coloring with only very light inclusions. The 45 diamonds are G-H color and range from VS1 to SI clarity. The brooch is constructed, in the typical 19th century manner, of 18K yellow gold with a layer of silver over the top. The silver highlights the brilliance of the diamonds. The overall coloring of this brooch is quite bright and considerably more sparkly than many other pieces from the period. The back retains the original c-clasp and slightly extended pinstem.

Origin: Europe, ca. 1840. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1” x 1”. Weight: 3.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, 1.0 carat; emerald, .75 carat.

$950

A stunning Victorian 18K gold locket in the shape of an elongated heart and centering a painted enamel plaque. The heart is delicately engraved along the outer edges and around the enameled plaque. The sentimental enamel illustrates a lovebird surrounded with bowers of roses delivering a love note. It is very finely worked with outstanding detail and bright, cheerful colors. The outer edge of the image is framed in opaque black champleve enamel. The heart is surmounted with an ornate pierced gallery that rises to the bale. The back of the locket is engraved to match the front, but in place of the enamel plaque is an ornately engraved gold door. The hinged door opens to reveal a hidden locket. It might have been used to hold a photo, but because of the shape it was more likely used to store a lock of the beloved’s hair. The quality and design of the enamel would suggest that the piece is Swiss. Tested and guaranteed 18K gold.

Origin: probably Switzerland, ca. 1850. Condition: enamel is perfect, a small ding on the left edge of the heart. Size: 1-1/8” wide; 2” long (not including bale). Weight: 9.0 grams.

The necklace is finished with an assymetrical pair of drops with foxtail tassels. The caps of the tassels have engraved decoration matching the slides. The necklace is hallmarked repeatedly with French “tete d’aigle” marks for 18K gold and with an unidentified maker’s mark.

The enamel is surrounded by a stippled background surrounded by an engraved border and ogee edge. The back retains the original extended pinstem and c-clasp. $1995

Striking Victorian brooch in the form of a woodpecker. The feathery head is pave-set with 31 rose-cut diamonds. The diamonds are set in silver over the gold—a typical construction technique in 19th century jewelry. The eye is a collet-set old European cut ruby. The long beak, worked in rose gold, grasps a 4mm natural pearl of very fine quality. "Novelty" brooches in animal forms were very popular in the late 19th century--and the best examples such as this were frequently gem-encrusted. Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent. Size: 2-3/8” x 13/16”. Weight: 9.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: ruby, .1 carat; diamond, 1.25 carats.
