SOLD, PLEASE VISIT US AGAIN!

Wonderful sterling silver tastevin (wine taster) by Cristofle. The traditional shallow shape with raised and indented bulls-eyes and volutes reflects light through a small portion of wine so that the color can be fully appreciated. The bottom, however, is inset with a silver 5 franc coin dated 1839 and showing the likeness of King Louis Philippe. The handle is formed in the traditional Parisian style with a ring handle surmounted with a thumbpiece. The ring allows the tastevin to be worn from a cellarmaster's chain. The bottom of the thumbpiece is fully hallmarked by Cristofle.

Origin: France, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, sharp detail, a tiny ding at the very edge of the thumbpiece. Size: 3-1/8" diameter (excluding handle). Weight: 84.5 grams.

SOLD, PLEASE VISIT US AGAIN!

Elegant classic-style silver tastevin. The vessel is used by sommeliers and cellar masters to examine wine for quality. The taster is traditionally shaped, with a domed bottom and curving sides decorated with large and small bulls-eyes and tapered gadrooning. The shape allows the color of the wine to be fully appreciated as the silver glistens through the liquid, the curving sides helps concentrate the wine's aroma, and the wide mouth allows the bouquet to develop quickly from just a small amount of wine. The looped handle enables the tastevin to be worn suspended on a sommelier's chain. The tastevin is appropriately marked with French 1st standard marks (higher silver content than sterling silver) and the maker's mark "PD".

Origin: France, ca. 1950. Condition: excellent, no dings, no monograms. Size: 3-1/4" diameter (excluding handle), 1-3/16" high. Weight: 101.5 grams.

$7,850

Important and extraordinary pair of Vienna Seccessionist silver candlelabra. The lobed, circular bases rise toward central acorn-like finials that each bears three deeply curving arms, in turn supporting lobed tulip-shaped candle socket. The candlelabra are made of very heavy gauge silver and the surfaces are hand hammered with great precision. The overall design is masterful, and easily on par with the silver works of Josef Hoffmann.

The candlesticks bear numerous markings, including the Vienna mark for .800 silver established in 1922 and the silversmith's hallmark "JxH". One candlelabrum is also marked "800", possibly indicating that they were exported to Germany or Italy at some time early in their life. There is one additional figural mark that is illegible.

Origin: Austria, ca. 1925. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: one candlelabrum is 6-7/8" tall and the other is 7"; both have an arm spread of approximately 7". Total Weight: 1,475.0 grams.
