An extraordinarily good set of cufflinks and three shirt studs by Larter, worked in 14K yellow gold and platinum. The round faces feature a border of foliate-engraved platinum circling around black mother of pearl disks centered with small pearls. The use of black mother of pearl is very uncommon, but especially so in this case where the faces are engraved with in a geometric starburst motif. The engraving combines with the natural luster of the material to create a very handsome flash of spectral colors. The seed pearls are of very good quality and provide a nice contrast to their dark surroundings. The backs are marked 14K and are hallmarked by Larter.

Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent. Size: cufflinks, 9/16” diameter; studs, 11/32” diameter. Weight: 12.1 grams.

An elegant dress set comprising a pair of double-faced cufflinks and four matching shirt studs by Tiffany & Co. The 18K yellow gold set is worked in Tiffany's longtime classic "Button" style. The front faces of the cufflinks have stitches set with round-cut diamonds, while the back faces have the more traditional gold stitches. The shirt studs have diamond stitching, as well. Over the years, Tiffany has made only a few men's designs set with diamonds, and they are generally rather traditional in style. This set is a perfect example of how Tiffany has taken a classic and added tasteful sparkle. Each piece is marked "Tiffany & Co. 750". The set is presented in its original dark blue Tiffany velvet-lined box and the light blue outer box. This design is not currently in production at Tiffany, but 18K cufflinks and studs with the same diamond weight currently retail at $6,000.

Origin: America, ca. 1995. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: cufflinks, 9/16" diameter; studs, 7/16" diameter.

Rare, heavy and handsome 5-piece dress set by famed 20th century jewelry designer Cipullo. The double-sided cufflinks and studs are designed as highly-detail scallop shells set with cabochon natural rubies. The workmanship is superb, utilizing combinations of highly polished and matte surfaces to achieve realism. The rubies have very rich, even color. The overall style is similar to the shell designs of Verdura. The cufflink faces are joined by chains stamped with French hallmarks for 18K gold. The findings of the studs are marked “18K”. Cipullo designed for many of the major jewelers of the last century—Tiffany, Cartier, etc.—but also designed independently. This set is part of his independent production and was originally purchased from his estate.
