A classic late Art Deco or early modernist porcelain water jug advertising Ricard Anisette. In the south of France, tradition dictates that anise-flavored aperitifs should be served with water to dilute the drink. Makers such as Ricard and Pernod provided advertising pitchers to local bars and cafes to increase their sales. This squared-off rectangular form is less common than the traditional globe-shaped pitcher and became popular after World War II. The bottom is marked "Ateliers de Céramique Ricard/Made in France".

Origin: France, ca. 1950. Condition: excellent, no chips or cracks. Size: 9" x 3-3/4" x 5-1/2" tall.

A classic mid-20th century art glass cocktail shaker typical of works by Venini. The amethyst glass is decorated with white ribbon swirls twisting around the tapered sides of the shaker. The base is finished with an applied clear foot while the upper rim has a chrome collar that matches the chrome cap with ball finial. While it is without documentation, the design does seem somewhat reminiscent of those by Gio Ponti for Venini.

Origin: Italy, ca. 1955. Condition: no chips or cracks to glass, a couple of small dings on the ball finial. Size: 11" tall.

A beautiful Art Deco green-cut-to-clear decanter designed by Charles Graffart for Val St. Lambert. The pyramidal shape capped by an inverted stopper is very linear and perfectly accents the austere overlay cutting pattern. The base is signed "Val St. Lambert" and the stopper is engraved with a number that matches the number inside the decanter's neck.

Origin: Belgium, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, no chips or cracks. Size: 9-1/8" tall.

A very nice Arts & Crafts bronze round tray with verdigris patina by Carl Sorensen. The surface is decorated in uneven concentric rings of darker and lighter green mottled patination, separated by thin bands of polished bronze. The outer edge is finished with a pair of cast handles in a pattern similar to Georg Jensen's "Blossom" design. Little is known about Sorensen other than that he worked in the Philadelphia area around 1900 and his pieces may have been retailed at Tiffany & Co. The bottom of the tray is marked "Bronze CS" and "Carl Sorensen". The handles are marked "1196".

Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, fine original patina. Size: 13" diameter (15" at handles).

A very unusual Czech Art Deco cranberry glass cocktail shaker. The shaker’s sides are slightly flared and finished in a paneled design. The shoulders narrow in a stepped pattern toward the corked strainer covered by a domed glass lid. The polished, concave bottom of the shaker is acid-marked “Made In Czecho-Slovakia.” Overall, this is a particularly attractive colored glass shaker.

Origin: Czechoslovakia, ca. 1925. Condition: no chips or cracks; the interior has some mineral staining. Size: 10-1/2” tall.

A very nice cut crystal cocktail shaker in cobalt blue overlay. The design is a classic pattern of angular mitres emanating from oval printies. The shaker is acid-signed on the bottom "Japan". Cut glass in the Art Deco style was one of the industries established in Japan during the Occupation following World War II, and the products are always of fine quality that easily compete with European products of the same era. The shaker is completed with its original chrome plated top.

Origin: Japan, ca. 1947. Condition: excellent, no chips or cracks to the glass or metal. Size: 11" tall.

A very fine and extremely rare Art Deco sterling silver cocktail shaker by exclusive Tuttle Silvermsiths. At the end of the Art Deco era, just before modernism began to take a firm hold, a few leading American silver companies started reinterpreting Stuart adn Georgian silver designs for modern purposes. This shaker is just such an example. The urn finial cresting above the everted rosette cap is a new take on late Stuart and early Georgian design, as is the overall severe cylindrical shape and the double-reeded banding. The final look is an extraordinary blending of 17th century design and the "skyscraper" design of the 1920s and 30s. The bottom of the shaker is marked with Tuttle's maker's mark, as well as the retailer's mark for Shreve, Crump & Low. It is also marked "London Reproduction 1660-1684". And finally, it is marked with the monogram for Harry S. Truman with the Roman number I, indicating the that shaker was made during the first Truman administration (1945-49). Tuttle is not a widely-known American silver company precisely because all its products were made entirely by hand and were extremely expensive. It was available only to the elite.

Origin: America, 1945-49. Condition: excellent, a few insignificant waves from "ice cube dings" only visible in strong, raking light. Size: 14-1/2" tall. Weight: 1,106 grams.

A good bronze footed trumpet vase by Carl Sorensen. The surface is patinated in a dark mottled green and is enhanced with parallel engraved lines in a bright copper finish. The small foot makes this one of Sorensen's more unusual vase designs. Sorensen made a variety of decorative metalwares, but little is known about him. He worked in Pennsylvania, and his pieces were possibly sold by Roycroft and Tiffany. The base is signed "Carl Sorensen" and also has his hallmark.

Origin: America, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent. Size: 7-1/16" tall.

A nice set of sterling silver cocktail picks, the tops decorated with colorful enameled roosters. The use of the rooster (“cock”) motif in Art Deco barware was a play on the word “cocktail”. Each pick has a hook on the back of the rooster so that it can hang from the edge of the glass. Each is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1927. The picks are presented in their original fitted case embossed Abercrombie & Fitch.

Origin: England, 1927. Condition: all original, no enamel damage, box has significant wear. Size: 3-3/16” long. Weight: 13.5 grams.

A high-quality, heavy sterling silver figural jigger in the form of a mint julep beaker by Manchester Silver Co. The jigger is a miniaturized version of the classic sterling silver beakers known as julep cups. The jigger is quite heavy and well-made. The bottom is engraved “For 19 Years Loyal Service With Brown-Forman 1968”. Brown-Forman was the first company to sell bottled bourbon, beginning in Kentucky in 1870. The julep cup form was, therefore, an especially meaningful design for a corporate gift. We've handled hundreds of figural silver jiggers, and this is the only example of this we've seen, suggesting that it was a custom order.

Origin: America, 1968. Condition: excellent, no monogram. Size: 2-3/8” tall. Weight: 54.3 grams.
