Lovely transitional Art Deco 14K gold brooch set with an amethyst cut in a truncated navette shape. The bar pin form is Edwardian, but this piece demonstrates pure Art Deco characteristics such as the angular severity of the shape and the unusual geometric cut of the amethyst. The surface of the gold is decorated with engine-turned engraving in the Edwardian manner. the amethyst shows strong color zoning typical of older large stones. The back retains its original extended pinstem and locking c-clasp. The back is marked "14K". Origin: America, circa 1920. Condition: excellent, no damage, all original. Size: 3" x 3/8". Weight: 8.5 grams. Approximate Gemstone Weight: 2.12 carats. |
