Elegant Art Nouveau medal brooch featuring a maiden surrounded by clouds and a bower of poppies. The design is entitled “Jeanne” which is included near the bottom of the brooch. The details are very nice and are obviously the product of a master medallist such as Dropsy or Becker. The gold has the soft “bloomed” texture characteristic of French Art Nouveau jewels. The back retains the original extended pinstem and c-clasp. The back is stamped with French 18K gold hallmarks and, illegibly, with the jeweler’s mark. This is the actual brooch pictured on page 110 of Christine Romero’s “Warman’s Jewelry”, 3rd edition. Origin: France, circa 1890. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1” diameter. Weight: 4.0 grams. |
