Very nice Victorian 14K yellow gold bar pin featuring a wonderfully detailed portrait of a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress. Late 19th century Europeans were fascinated by American Indians, to whom they were introduced at various World's Fairs and travelling "Wild West" shows. Images of American Indians are, however, very scarce in period Victorian jewelry from Europe. The reverse retains the original pinstem and early safety clasp. The back is marked "585 Pr. FSH". Origin: Continental Europe, circa 1890. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 2-3/8" x 7/8". Weight: 6.5 grams. |
