Equisite, heavy large sterling silver berry spoon in Towle's 1884 "Arlington" pattern. Named after Robert E. Lee's estate, the engraved trellis roses on the bowl not only echo the design of the handle, but also recall the story of the founding of Arlington National Cemetery, when Union troops buried their dead in Mrs. Lee's rose garden. The pattern is a multi-motif design, meaning that the repousse pattern of the handle is slightly different on each piece in a service. The reverse is marked with Towle's old hallmark. Origin: America, circa 1880s. Condition: excellent, no monogram, crisp details. Size: 9" long. |
