Pretty brooch fashioned from coral carved into a bouquet of roses and set in a silver fitting. The carving is very delicately worked and makes the most of the coral’s natural variations of color. The central full-blown rose is flanked by a pair of buds and foliage. Brooches of this type, often made from older pieces of carved Chinese coral were quite popular in the late Edwardian and early Art Deco periods. The back is marked “Silver” and retains the original clasp and pinstem. Origin: China or Japan, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1-5/8” x 3/4". |
