Shiebler Sterling Silver Insect & Fish Tea Strainer
A fabulous sterling silver in-spout tea strainer by George Shiebler. The hammered surface is fashioned in a shape suggestive of a lily blossom and the outside is decorated with an applied fish, fly and spider. The design of the piercing mimics the floral style of the overall shape. The detail of the applied creatures is superb. The strainer has a wire handle with prongs that can be inserted into the spout of a teapot to catch loose leaves as the liquid is poured. Holloware items with applied decoration in the Aesthetic style by Shiebler are very rare.

Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent. Size: 1-13/16” tall to top edge of strainer; 5-1/4” tall to top of prongs. Weight: 25.5 grams.
