An outstanding sterling silver master salt dip completely covered in repousse floral decoration by Gorham. The oval dish is finished with an outturned shell border and is raised on scrolled legs with shell terminals. This salt is very generously sized. The bottom bears a period monogram "AHS". The interior retains traces of the original gilding. The bottom is marked with Gorham's older hallmark, the pattern number 2200, and an illegible date mark that may be 1887. Origin: America, ca. 1887. Condition: excellent, sharp detail on decoration, normal wear and oxidation to the interior gilding, no dings. Size: 3-1/8" x 2-11/16" x 1-3/4" tall. Weight: 73.0 grams. |
