An outstanding cameo brooch depicting Jesus Christ set in 18K yellow gold. The cameo is beautifully carved an depicts Christ wearing the crown of thorns. The detailed treatment of the hair is stunning. The shell is deeply curved and the artist worked carefully with this shape to create a very three-dimensional representation. The simple gold setting is lightly accented with a beaded edge appropriate to the subject matter. The back retains the original extended pinstem and c-clasp. Cameos depicting Jesus are quite rare. Tested and guaranteed 18K gold. Origin: America, ca. 1870. Condition: excellent, all original, no damage. Size: 1-23/32” x 1-3/8”. |
