A marvelous Art Nouveau dog collar necklace comprising a double row of very fine gold chains joining collet-set navette-cut turquoise cabochons interspersed with double s-shaped, pierced gold plaques. The choice of stones is particularly attractive, using the natural matrix to provide brown and cream color contrast with the bluish-green turquoise. The stones are very slightly graduated in size. The necklace was originally 13” long, but was extended with additional chains at one end to a total of 15-1/4”; and the original box clasp was replaced with the current vermeil clasp. This piece can be fitted to a particular neck by adjusting the number of links between each stone to achieve perfect draping. Tested and guaranteed 14K gold. Origin: America, ca. 1895. Condition: excellent, extended as noted above. Size: 15-1/4” long; 1-7/32” wide at center. Weight: 28.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 45.0 carats. |
