A fine late Victorian or Edwardian 14K yellow gold lorgnette accented with royal blue and white champlevé enamel. The long handle has reeded decoration interrupted by enameled plaques flanked with acanthus leaf motifs. The middle enameled plaque is the switch that allows the folded lenses to spring open. The lenses are attached to the handle with a fan motif. The other end of the handle has a ring so that the lorgnette could be worn from a chatelaine. The nose piece is marked with Continental hallmarks for 14K gold. The lorgnette is presented in its original leather carrying pouch. Origin: Continental Europe, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent and completely functional, no enamel damage, a small ding on the handle near the ring, normal scratching to the lenses. Size: 5-7/8" long. Weight: 30.5 grams. |
