This lovely ring features a beautiful gray-green chrysoberyl surrounded by rose cut diamonds. The chrysoberyl has a very clear cat’s eye effect that compliments the stone’s strong coloring. The cabochon is cut with a very high dome. The simple arrangement of diamonds surrounding the central stone is a classic Victorian style. The inside of the shank bears imperial Austrian hallmarks for 14K gold. Origin: Austria, ca. 1890. Condition: the chrysoberyl has a flake on the back surface that is probably original to the cutting (these stones are difficult to cut are usually set with a closed back that hides cutting imperfections); otherwise excellent. Finger Size: 6-1/2. Weight: 2.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: chrysoberyl, 1.22 carats; diamond, .25 carat. |
