A fine Victorian 14K yellow gold round locket, the cover decorated with a very detailed dragon. The design is crafted in a way that suggests the beast is coiled around the locket with only his head and tail showing on the front. The body is worked with engraved scales and the head and tail are covered in feathers. The dragon’s snarling mouth reveals a coiling tongue. The eye is set with a tiny cabochon emerald. The background is stippled for additional effect. The inside retains the original frame and glass covering. The back is engraved with a lovely period 3-letter monogram “WHS”. The inside is marked “14K”. Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent, sharp detail, there may be a ding on the back side or it may just be slightly flattened from the engraved monogram. Size: 15/16” diameter. Weight: 8.0 grams. |
