A stunning Imperial Russian 14K yellow gold Art Nouveau pendant set with a dazzling array of colored gemstones favored at the last Romanov court of Nicholas and Alexandra—demantoid garnets, rhodolite garnets and rubies. The pendant comprises two curving flowering branches, the leaves set with old European-cut green demantoid garnets, and the flowers represented by old European-cut pinkish-violet rhodolite garnets. These are the two rarest forms of garnet. Demantoids, especially, were favored in Russian Art Nouveau jewels and were prized not only for their unusual color, but for the diamond-like brilliance. The central flower’s petals are set with demantoids and the center is set with a cushion-cut ruby. The setting is stamped with the Kokoshnik used in Moscow from 1908 to 1917, the “56” standard (14K), and also bears the goldsmith’s mark “SK” (transliterated). Origin: Russia, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1-9/16” x 1-1/16”. Weight: 6.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: demantoids, 1.19 carats; rhodolites, 1.42 carats; ruby, .25 carat. |
