Victorian 14K Gold & Enamel Shamrock & Wishbone Brooch
A delightful Victorian 14K gold pin in the form of four-leaf clover superimposed over a wishbone. The shamrock is finely decorated in matte green enamels in many shades. Shamrock enamels are often somewhat dull, but this example is particularly nicely made. The wishbone is very realistic and was probably modeled from a casting of a real chicken wishbone. Whimsical Victorian pins were often intended as gifts and conveyed hidden meanings. In this case, the message “Good Luck”, isn’t so well-hidden. The back retains the original pinstem and roll-over safety clasp marked “14K”.

Origin: America (probably Newark), ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, all original, no enamel damage. Size: 2-1/4” x 1-1/8”. Weight: 11.75 grams.
