A pretty vintage H. Stern Sputnik charm or pendant worked in 18K yellow gold and collet-set with variety of colorful gemstones including garnet, citrine, amethyst, tourmaline, and aquamarine. This style was popularized by H. Stern, the world’s largest source of colored gemstones in the early years of the space race. The pointy design was reminiscent of the first Soviet satellite, hence the nickname “Sputnik”. A variety of pieces were made in this style, but charms and pendants are among the less common. Marked “750” for 18K gold and with Stern's hallmark. Origin: Brazil, ca. 1955. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 3/4" diameter. Weight: 4.5 grams.
