Wonderful sterling silver tastevin (wine taster) by Cristofle. The traditional shallow shape with raised and indented bulls-eyes and volutes reflects light through a small portion of wine so that the color can be fully appreciated. The bottom, however, is inset with a silver 5 franc coin dated 1839 and showing the likeness of King Louis Philippe. The handle is formed in the traditional Parisian style with a ring handle surmounted with a thumbpiece. The ring allows the tastevin to be worn from a cellarmaster's chain. The bottom of the thumbpiece is fully hallmarked by Cristofle. Origin: France, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, sharp detail, a tiny ding at the very edge of the thumbpiece. Size: 3-1/8" diameter (excluding handle). Weight: 84.5 grams. |
