A handsome pair of Victorian cufflinks, the faces comprising convex mother of pearl discs set in octagonal 18K yellow gold mountings. The gold borders are finely decorated with foliate engraving. The contrasting shapes of the gold settings versus the mother of pearl discs is very unusual and is heightened by piercing to allow light to shine through at the edges. Each face is centered with a small collet-set cabochon ruby of fine color and clarity. The faces are connected to baton backs by gold chains. The backs of the faces are marked “18Ct” and also have an unidentified maker’s mark. Origin: England, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, a small flake on the edge of one mother of pearl disc visible under 10X magnification. Size: faces, 9/16” diameter. Weight: 6.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: .38 carat. |
