A wonderful Retro brooch worked in 14K yellow gold and set with rubies. The brooch is in the shape of a pair of fully three-dimensional cherries suspended from stems attached to a twig and flanked with a pair of leaves. Figural designs in the Retro period are most uncommon. The leaves are nicely detailed with serrated edges and veining. The cherries are pave-set with mixed-cut rubies. The rubies have fine clarity and intense color, without the pinkish cast frequently seen in rubies in Retro pieces. The back retains the original pinstem and clasp marked “14K”. Origin: America, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 3-3/16” x 1-7/8”. Weight: 28.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 3.04 carats. |
