A nice and rare pair of 18K rose gold “Sputnik” earrings, probably by H. Stern. The golden domes are set with a variety of semi-precious gemstones, including aquamarine, green tourmaline, garnet, citrine, and amethyst. Each piece of Sputnik jewelry has a unique appearance, depending upon the particular combination of gems chosen and the color of the gold. Sputnik jewelry was created by H. Stern, Brazil’s largest dealer in colored gemstones, and was quite popular in the early years of the space race, hence the nickname. The omega clips are marked 14K, but the body of the earrings are tested and guaranteed 18K gold. Origin: Brazil, ca. 1955. Condition: excellent. Dome Size: 3/4" diameter. Weight: 8.0 grams.
