A lovely small Art Nouveau floral brooch worked in 10K yellow gold and highlighted at the center with a gold pansy decorated in translucent enamels. The coloring of the pansy is particularly nice, shading delicately from a soft rose and yellow on the upper petals to a stronger bluish-violet and black on the lower petals. The pearl is centered with a small seed pearl, and another seed pearl to one side suggests a bud. In the Victorian language of flowers, the pansy represented remembrance. Small brooches such as this might have been given as a parting gift. The flower is enclosed in a gold circle flanked by “wings”. The back retains the original pinstem and clasp marked “10K”. Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, all original, no enamel damage. Size: 3/4" x 1-1/8”. Weight: 2.5 grams. |
