A fine Portuguese silver hinged bangle bracelet decorated with eight vignettes depicting the architectural treasures of eight cities. The scenes include the cathedral in Lamego, the castle in Guimaraes, the bridge over the lower town in Porto, the university in Coimbra, the cathedral in Batalha, the castle in Belem, the city gates in Lisboa and the Roman ruins of the Temple of Diana in Evora. Each vignette is separated by Gothic style arches. The thumbpiece of the clasp is decorated as a rosebud. The detail of the workmanship is superb. The clasp and the safety chain are bear full hallmarks from Oporto, the center of the Portuguese silversmithing. Origin: Portugal, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent, sharp detail, all original. Size: 1-1/8” wide; interior opening 2-13/16” x 2-5/16”. Weight: 43.0 grams. |
