A beautiful Art Nouveau 14K yellow gold pansy brooch, the petals stunningly decorated in shaded opaque enamels and bordered with seed pearls. The coloring of the enamel is very fine. The flower is centered by a prong-set old European cut diamond of fine quality, estimated at H color, VS1 clarity. The seed pearl border is a somewhat uncommon touch and makes this pin stand out a bit from the crowd. The back of the brooch retains the original extended pinstem and c-clasp and a folding bale so the piece can be worn as a pendant. Though unmarked, the piece is almost certainly by Krementz, Hedges or an American maker of equal quality. Tested and guaranteed 14K. Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, all original, no enamel damage except a 1/32" flake at the edge of one petal. Size: 1-1/16" x 1-1/8" (excluding folding bale). Weight: 10.2 grams. Approximate Total Diamond Weight: .21 carat. |
