A lovely late Victorian/early Edwardian 14K yellow gold pin in the form of a dragonfly. The curving, segmented tail is set with an alternating row of blue sapphire cabochons and seed pearls. The body is set with an round cut emerald, and the eyes are two tiny rubies. Each wing features a white opal cabochon flanked by miniscule seed pearls. The gems are of very good quality; the opals have good play of color and the cabochons are more transparent and more intensely colored than most. The insect is set onto a knife-edge pin that nearly disappears when being worn, so that the dragongfly appears to have landed on the wearer. The pin retains its original pinstem and c-clasp. Tested and guaranteed 14K. Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 2” x 1-1/8”. Weight: 7.0 gr.
