An extraordinarily good set of cufflinks and three shirt studs by Larter, worked in 14K yellow gold and platinum. The round faces feature a border of foliate-engraved platinum circling around black mother of pearl disks centered with small pearls. The use of black mother of pearl is very uncommon, but especially so in this case where the faces are engraved with in a geometric starburst motif. The engraving combines with the natural luster of the material to create a very handsome flash of spectral colors. The seed pearls are of very good quality and provide a nice contrast to their dark surroundings. The backs are marked 14K and are hallmarked by Larter. Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent. Size: cufflinks, 9/16” diameter; studs, 11/32” diameter. Weight: 12.1 grams. |
