An exquisite diamond- and fancy sapphire-set 15K yellow gold clasp highlights this strand of late Victorian cultured pearls. The round clasp features three antique cushion- and round-cut natural fancy-color sapphires highlighted with three old mine-cut diamonds. The sapphires are in pleasing hues of blue, green and pink. The blue sapphire has light tone and moderately-light saturation, while the pink and green sapphires are more strongly colored. All the sapphires have excellent polish with high luster, and show no signs of heat treatment. The small old mine cut diamonds are of nice quality, ranging from I to K in color. The clasp is currently fitted for a single strand, but can easily be converted for use with a double strand. The pearls in the strand have a strong ivory color with rose overtones and range from 3 to 5.8mm. Unlike most graduated strands, the largest pearls are strung nearest the clasp, because the clasp is intended to be worn. Frankly, we’d recommend placing this spectacular clasp on an equally spectacular strand of pearls. Origin: England, ca. 1900. Condition: clasp excellent; pearls show considerable wear.
