A very pretty late Victorian art glass shot glass worked in zwischengoldglas. The base of the crystal glass is hollowed out, decorated with a handpainted floral design against a gilt background and then sealed with a crystal plug cut to fit perfectly. The technique was used in the late Victorian era to mimic a type of Bohemian art glass made earlier in the century. This example features a bright pink carnation that is magnified and reflected in the flat panel cutting along the sides of the glass. Unsigned, but very likely made by Moser. Origin: Bohemia, ca. 1890. Condition: excellent, no chips or cracks, no loss to gilt or enameled decoration. Size: 2-11/32” tall. |
