A nice coin silver rattail spoon by John Brown, active in Baltimore from 1799, after apprenticing in Philadelphia. The bowl is rather narrow, suggesting it was to be used as a pap spoon. The spoon must have been an early piece from Brown's shop, as the design is quite clearly drawn from late 18th century styles. The three-letter monogram in a bright-cut cartouche is also characteristic of the period. The back is marked with Brown's punch.

Origin: Baltimore, ca. 1800. Condition: a few small to moderate dings in the bowl. Size: 5-5/8". Weight: 11.25 grams.

Lovely sterling silver demitasse spoon with a floral finial decorated in plique-a-jour enamels in five shades. The stained glass effect is very nice. The bowl is engraved "Irene". The spoon retains its original gilding. The back is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1916.

Condition: virtually mint. Size: 4-5/16" long. Weight: 7.0 grams.

An unusually nice silverplated studs box, the top decorated with repousse chrysanthemums. The only clue to the box’s purpose of holding a gentleman’s shirt studs and cufflinks is the figural stud finial on the top. The bottom is marked for the Middletown Plate Co. This is a much more decorative example than most.

Origin: America, 1876-99. Condition: excellent, hardly any wear to the plating. Size; 2-5/8” diameter; 1-3/4” tall.

John C. Moore period Tiffany & Co. sterling silver child's fork decorated with the nursery rhyme "Cock Robin & Jenny Wren." The fork shows the likeness of Mr. Robin wearing a tuxedo and Ms. Wren demurely peeking over her fan. The back is marked "Tiffany & Co. Sterling". The back also bears the letter M designating manufacture between the years 1875 and 1891.

Condition: excellent; usual wear to outer tines; no monogram. Size: 6-1/4" long.

Nice Victorian brass ladies' lace-up boot. This example has holes drilled to represent the holes for laces. The Victorians often placed these along their mantles for purely decorative purposes.

Large Victorian sterling silver meat serving fork, the tines with matte gilding and bright-cut engraving. The reverse is marked "925 Sterling 1000". Nice weight. Unknown American maker.

A lovely sterling silver fancy serving fork in an unnamed Art Nouveau pattern by the Baird-North Co. The handle is beautifully decorated with a thorny vine of wild roses. The back is decorated in a simpler design of roses. The splayed tines are ornately pierced. A fork of this shape would probably have been used to serve bacon, but it might also be useful for cold meats. The reverse is marked “Sterling/Pat. 1903”. There is no maker’s mark (maker’s marks were not legally required until 1906), but we’ve had pieces in this pattern that have bear Baird-North’s hallmark.

A handsome Imperial Russian medium-size hammered brass oval tray with cast brass handles. A tray of this size would probably have been used to serve vodka, and could still be used as a cordial tray or even on a buffet table. One end is stamped with the maker’s name and the Imperial Romanov double eagle warrant. The handles are attached with copper rivets and are cast in a ropetwist design.

Origin: Russia, last quarter 19th century. Condition: excellent, no dings, untouched patina, wear to the Imperial warrant. Size: 14-1/4” x 7-3/8” x 1/2”.

Very heavy sterling silver serving spoon in Dominick & Haff's outstanding 1898 "New King" pattern. This is one of the company's best patterns and is very difficult to find. The reverse is also marked with the retailer's mark for Bailey, Banks & Biddle.

Origin: America, circa 1898. Condition: excellent, sharp details, period monogram "G". Size: 8-5/16" long.

A lovely and unusual Victorian sterling silver jelly knife in Towle’s 1880 “No. 128” pattern. Also known as “No. 28”, this pattern is characterized by a twisted handle, accented with beautiful bright-cut engraving. The serving end is shaped in the form of a leaf and is matte-gilt to highlight the floral engraving. Originally intended to serve savory jellies, the piece could now be used for pastries. The back is hallmarked by Towle and has the pattern number.

Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent, original gilding intact, there may be a slight bend toward the tip of the serving end but it’s difficult to be certain because of the naturalistic form of the bowl. Size: 8-3/8” long. Weight: 45.0 grams.

Very rare Imperial Russian silver child's fork with vermeil and engraved floral decoration. In fact, I've never before seen a piece of Russian children's flatware. The maker's hallmark on the back is slightly obscured by the design, but the assayer's mark (AA/1895), the standard mark (84), and the city mark (Moscow) are very clear.

Elegant sterling silver berry serving spoon with very high quality bright cut floral engraving. The matte-finished bowl is engraved with a rose motif while the handle has a variety of flowers and foliage. The reverse is marked "Sterling" and "J.S. MacDonald". The firm was in business in Baltimore, circa 1900. Excellent condition, no monogram. 8.75" long.

Wonderful figural sterling silver child's spoon especially for Easter. The handle is decorated with two chicks recently hatched from their eggs above the word "Easter" and an Easter lily. Interestingly, the teardrop shape of the bowl is that used in Victorian times for egg spoons. The back is marked by Durgin and also by D. Low of Salem, MA (maker of the famous Salem Witch spoon). Circa 1890. 4.5" long. Excellent condition, including intact gilding on the interiors of the cracked eggs.

Lovely Victorian bonbon spoon by Gorham in the 1894 “Imperial Chrysanthemum” pattern. The ornate handle is decorated with chrysanthemum blossoms, while the gilt bowl is pierced with a pattern suggesting chrysanthemum foliage. The back of the handle is as ornate at the front. The back is marked with old Gorham hallmark.

Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, all original including gilding, no monogram. Size: 4-3/4” long. Weight: 20.5 grams.

Sterling silver berry spoon in Knowles' 1900 "Lexington" pattern. Simplicity of decoration is the rule, so that the ribbed bowl with its bright matte gilding is the focal point.

Origin: America, c. 1900. Condition: near mint, no monogram, gilding intact. Size: 7" long.

A gorgeous sterling silver cream ladle rare on two counts. First, Fessenden’s 1910 “Tulip” pattern is very uncommon. Secondly, while spoons were often engraved as souvenir pieces, serving pieces were hardly ever given this treatment. This is the only souvenir cream ladle we’ve seen. The matte gilt bowl is engraved with a very detailed representation of the U.S. Capitol Building underscored by “Washington DC”. The back is hallmarked by Fessenden & Co.

Lovely pair of sterling silver sugar tongs with opaque turquoise and white enamel decoration. The quality of these tongs is apparent from the ornate and elegant piercing of the tips. Stamped on the inside “Sterling 1212” and hallmarked by the H. H. Curtis Co. (North Attleboro, MA, 1891-1915).

Origin: America, circa 1900. Condition: excellent, no missing enamel, no monogram, faint lemony gilding. Size: 3-1/4” long.
